The first time I heard of Bill Clinton was in 6th grade in Accra. Our school had decided that only members of the brain buster team were going to meet and greet the American president on his first visit to the continent. In our case, we were going to stand on the pavements and wave at the American president in his limousine as he was being escorted by the president of Ghana, Jerry John Rawlings, to the Independence Square in Accra.

While my young mind was processing what it meant to participate on the historic occasion of President Clinton's visit to Ghana, I was even struck by the fact that at the time of his visit, Bill Clinton was going to be the first president of the United States to visit the continent while in power.

The world has been a very strange place.

I sometimes find the irony in the words of men who seek for peace but
whose actions breed war. I find it contradicting that men insist on
building when their actions tear each other apart.

I have seen Angels lose their wings, men branded as "devils" turn
into heroes under their own watch, children without a hint or tint of
anger or violence slaughter their grandparents and family with their
own hands.

It's frustrating when lovers don't remember the passion in their kisses
anymore because of a wrong word, or a father and son can't remember the
strength in their bonds because of a failing moment or a neighbor
refuses to forget a broken window despite the many thanksgivings
shared. It's pathetic that the collective memories in an archive of
shared funerals, birthday's and weddings will be gone because you
forgot to feed his/her dog when s/he was away for the night.

So I wonder, will there ever be peace in the world? Can we all co-exist?

Where does all the good I've done go when i do one thing wrong?
