Dear GS students:

Welcome back, and a special welcome to all new students, on behalf of your student council!  Here are two pieces of information all new students will want to know, and all continuing students will be able to confirm: Firstly, everything you heard during Orientation is true.  Secondly, that's why you should enjoy the first weeks of the semester (life will get stressful soon enough). So come to some of the fantastic events we have in store for you!

GSSC Events*

1. Happy Hour at Prohibition

Leave campus for an evening to mingle with your fellow GS students!
Prohibition was recently called "The Perfect Bar" by NewYork Nightlife and featured on NBC. You wouldn't want to miss this opportunity to socialize, while enjoying specials (just get there early and say you're with Columbia) and live music!
For more information, visit Facebook.

Date: Thursday, Jan. 20
Place: Prohibition (503 Columbus Ave., between 84th and 85th streets)
Time: 8:00-10:00 p.m. (live music at 9:00 p.m.)

2. Senior/First Year Mentoring Meet & Greet

Questions, answers, and invaluable connections within your GS community!
During a free brunch catered by Deluxe, first years' questions and concerns will be addressed and answered by our knowledgeable seniors, who will in turn ensure their connections to GS for years to come.
For more information, visit Facebook.

Date: Sunday, Jan. 23
Place: GS Lounge, Lewisohn Hall
Time: 1:00-3:00 p.m.
Price: Free!
RSVP: First years must register through Sundial. Seniors must register by contacting Kristen Hutzler (Senior Class VP) at kah2136@columbia.edu.

FAQ:
1. What is a first year?
For this event, a first year is just what it sounds like, anyone in their first year (first two semesters) at Columbia. You are a first year regardless of how many credits you transferred to Columbia.
2. I attended last time, can I attend again?
Sure, but remember to register!

3. French Food & Asian Art

Enjoy an afternoon of fun and foreign cultures with other GSers!
After a three-course lunch at Le Monde, we will catch a bus to the MET, which we are touring all year, each time visiting a different section of the museum (this time - big surprise! - it?s Asian Art). You can take part in either one or both of these events.
For more information, visit Facebook.

Date: Friday, Jan. 28
Place: Le Monde and The Metropolitan Museum of Art
Time: Lunch: 12:30 p.m. MET Art Tour: 2:45 p.m.
Price: Lunch: $5. MET Art Tour: Free! (bus fare not included)
Tickets: Up to 2 tickets per CUID are available online for both Lunch and the MET Art Tour. Please note that, if you wish to take part in both events, you need to reserve separate tickets.

4. "Columbia's Got Talent" Auditions

The School of General Studies is home to many visual artists, singers, musicians, comedians, actors, and dancers, to name a few. Come and audition for our spring talent competition, to get a chance to compete for significant prizes.

Date: Saturday, Feb. 5 and Saturday, Feb. 12
Place: Broadway Room, Lerner Hall
Time: 1:00-3:00 p.m.
