2. Columbia University Dance Marathon: 5K for the Kids Run/Walk

5K for the Kids is a fundraiser for the Columbia University Dance
Marathon, an event occurring on February 9-10 2008, benefiting the
Elizabeth Glaser Pediatrics AIDS Foundation.

RACE INFO
• Sunday, October 21st @ 9:00 am
• 3.1 miles, 116th St. entrance at Riverside Park, Columbia University
• Required check-in from 7:45 am – 8:30 am at 116th St. entrance at Riverside Park to pick up race number

How to Register
• Fill out and return this form (both sides completed), along with
entry fee (checks made payable to Columbia University) to 505 Lerner
Hall, Dance Marathon Box (in the mailboxes at the back of the room)
• Register online at www.columbia.edu/cu/cudm

Entry Fee
• On or before October 19th: $20
• On October 21st – Race Day**: $25
** You are not guaranteed a souvenir tee-shirt if registering after October 12th

3. Yoga Retreat:

One and a half hour yoga practice Meditation, breathing exercises,mantras and a bhajans (meditation & music) plus lunch

4. Homecoming Carnival:


Friday, October 12th, 12 - 3pm
Lewisohn Lawn, Math Lawn and Pupin Plaza
Join the four undergraduate student
councils, Bacchanal, ResLife and SDA for a carnival taking over upper
campus with inflatables and carnival snacks. Make sure to stick around
for performances and games hosted by student groups such as Pie the
Presidents, Kissing Booth, Table of Freaks and more! Win the games and
win prizes including gift certificates, CU Football gear and
iPods! Come out, party and get psyched for Homecoming Weekend!

5. Homecoming Football Game:


When: Saturday 10/13 11 -12
Join the General Studies Game Owls in the
Lounge for a quick breakfast before heading uptown to the Homecoming
Football Game! Grab breakfast and then hop the free shuttles leaving
from campus to Baker Field where one can enjoy barbecue and beverages
of the 2 ID variety.

6. National Coming Out Day & Queer Common Meal


When: October 11, at 12PM on Low Steps, join Dean Quigley, Vice Dean Friedman, Dean
Colombo as well as Queer Awareness Month Co-Chair Cait Clancy & Proud
Colors Pres. Norman Washington to inaugurate the SAFE ZONE PROGRAM at
Columbia University.

THEN, at 5PM, join the University Chaplain and QuAM at Queer Common
Meal. This year's theme is Out and Proud: Coming Out Stories from the
LGBT Community in celebration of National Coming Out Day. Join us as
we listen to and exchange stories about coming out and the queer
experience at Columbia. This event is part of an ongoing series of
discussions that address issues pertinent to Columbia's interfaith and
multicultural community. Please RSVP at commonmeal@columbia.edu to
indicate kosher or vegetarian meal option.

7. ABC New Student Group Recognition:


Have you been thinking about starting a club or student group at
Columbia? Now may be your chance. The Activities Board at Columbia,
better known as ABC, is now accepting submissions for new student group
recognition. The deadline to apply is October 14, 2007. Two members of
General Studies sit on the ABC board. For more information please

8. 1st Annual Mr. General Studies Mangeant & Silent Auction


Hey GS! Want to have some fun while also giving back to the GS
community? Come have a blast at the 1st Annual Mr. GS Mangeant &
Silent Auction on Friday, October 12th at the Parlour, located at 86th and Broadway.
The pageant starts at 9:00 p.m. and the auction will be going all night
long. Show your gratitude for all GS has done for you by simply
showing up for a fun and entertaining night and bidding on all the
wonderful guys that GS has to offer! All proceeds benefit the GS Senior
Gift Fund.

Dear Classmates:
Graduation applications are due this month and Chikodi and I would

11. Non-credit Writing courses

When: Through the end of the semester
Are you interested in taking a writing workshop in fiction, poetry, or
non-fiction? Sign up for INTRO a non-credit workshop taught by graduate
students in the writing division. Classes meet once a week for 2
hours; submissions will be established by the teacher, and range from
2-3 submissions (a story or essay) a semester, or a poem every week or
every other week. Classes will begin the second week of October and
end when regular classes end.

12. The MS Bike Tour on Sunday, October 14th:

Experience the thrill of touring Manhattan and riding through the
Lincoln Tunnel - traffic-free. Circle the City on the FDR and Harlem
River Drives plus the rolling West Side Highway. Join 5,000
enthusiastic cyclists riding your choice of 30, 60 or 100 miles to
collectively reach a fundraising goal of more than $2.0 million. All
money raised will fund MS research and support services for people with
MS and their families.
