Meeting Minutes 1/29/2008

Meeting Start: 19:46

Niko: meeting coming to order
This is a semester of action. Last semester was reaction.
Let's keep this meeting extremely brief
Let's on the GSSC introduce themselves, and what you'd like to see the GSSC accomplish. Bad: Better Unity. Good: Flag Pole in front of Lewisohn.

Nancy Saunders: VP Policy, Junior, want to focus on leaving behind a structural guidebook for the council so that every future council has something coming in - on how to get things done.

Paige Lampkin: University Senator, I want rent not to be increased 5% every year

Allen Settle: Student Workers. Metro Cards cheaper for students. Re-write the Constitution in a way that reflects our intelligence.

Timothy Jolis: Student Health, event for veterans getting information on health services.

Raul Wikkeling: Alumni Affairs & CCE rep. Get a better profile of the GS alum who'd like to get involved.

Brendan Rooney: Soph Class VP, would really like to see basketball tournament go down without a hitch.

Thomas Williams: I think I am in the wrong chair.

Ari Brenman: List College Student council (JTS) 10% of the GS population, right out of high school. More general programming - make JTS more visible to the wider community.

Alex Katz: Freshman class President. Goal for this semester is to work with the presidents of the other freshman councils to create four school freshmen events to integrate GS more into the greater Columbia.

Maria Morad: Barnard Liaison, increase ties between GS our respective colleges.

Whitney Green: Liaison for SEAS, keep communication open, incorporate GS more into the Columbia community.

Lisa Weber: CCSC Liaison, freshmen class doing four school programming.

Elizabeth Alonso Hallifax: Community @ Large Chairperson, involve more people in C@LC - dyslexia book drive.

Jake Matilsky: Delegate at Large, Policy. Swipe access, educational parity

Elie Colie: Delegate at Large Finance, working on Financing GS inspired event with all four councils.

Helena Lellis: Sophomore Class VP

Ashley Forman: I throw parties really well, I would like to work this year more with List College. Working on the Gala - get your tickets now while they are hot. $35 for drinks/dessert March 1st. Check your inbox. Smash the attendance record.

Dave Minchin: Photographer, I would like to see a resolution with Nancy. We are going to see if we can get Latin diplomas rather than English. CC diplomas are in Latin, seems reasonable that they should be the same.

Also Gala co-chair.

Brody Berg: VP of Communication. Better technological collaboration.

Monique Long: VP for Class of 2008.

Karly Curcio: Jr Class VP. Working on installing monthly lunches geared toward academics, career education and career opportunities. And to build a web page.

Joel Pichardo: Student Services, Housing etc. Goal for this semester is to make student council more productive.

Niko Cunningham: Student Body President, I'd like to do marketing across the country. I want to present the real face of GS. Often we surprise members of the other schools, and bring that to the forefront.

We have a very short meeting this week. A few announcements and then we can meet & greet.

Brody: announced as interim VP of Student Life. Called on Joel to call for volunteers for Glass House Rocks. Announced new "lean, mean" GSSC, and encouraged council members to get in contact with their committee leaders for ideas on how to be more efficient.

Nancy: Meetings will be shorter. But, we'll still have for discussion on resolutions.

Niko: We're trying to address what Joel brought up ie. "the most optimized experience"

Alex: suggestion in terms of updates, there are a lot of people in this rectangle, just introductions took 15 minutes, and we didn't do updates, roll up updates. Possibly roll the updates up to the committee head possibly. It's a matter of minutes, but if it's not necessary.

Niko: I wanted to just stress something we didn't do well last semester - academics. If there's every any problems about academics let us know. Think some people didn't get to focus on academics as much as we should have.

With that being said, that is the content of this meeting. I'd like to hear introductions from students who've visited.

Sean O'keefe: new here from CA. Veteran.

Leslie Olson: first semester.

Kristina Reichert: Oregon. Marketing and PR.

Chris Hannigan: On duty, came here to see what it's all about. will be at next meeting.

Dan Nechita: Here to see what you guys are up to. See if there is anything that might interest me. Might jump on some wagon.

Ryan Catala: Westchester transfer, second semester. Green Policy is a big deal.

Koretta King: 3rd semester, want to contribute to GS students. Make things more equitable. Make us better known. Want to answer "what is GS question?" Want to not let this experience pass me by.

Mansur Zigaushin: 1st semester from Uzbekistan. Came to see us.

Daao: I am a DJ and math student.

Erica: From CA, here to see how I can contribute. Arts initiative or photography.

Niko: I'd like to introduce Eric Irving.

Eric: GS 06, has spoken to many students here in the room. I was recently working in admissions. New job: alumni affairs officer, specifically working with GS and Continuing Education. Career dinners, Women of GS

Niko: did everyone get a volunteerism sheet? These are some of the ideas we've talked about. Is there something that might interest you? I'd like to end the official part of the meeting. Website? Brody, Events? Brody, Gala? Ashley, Policy? Nancy, Finance? Talk to Niko, Health? Talk to Timothy?

Monique: thank-a-thon is hurting for GS volunteers, please try to come and write letters to GS contributors.
