About Us

"WELCOME TO C@LC!"
The Community at Large Committee

We are the first ever committee of our kind as an official arm of the General Studies Student Council. C@LC membership is open to ALL undergraduate colleges within the University. If you are visiting this website, you are involved in making history.

The purpose of C@LC is to expand Columbia students' world view beyond the 116th gates in an effort to produce a mature, less myopic vision of our surroundings. The committee aims to do this by reassessing our definition and awareness of our community on three levels: the University, Morningside Heights/Harlem, and Manhattan. The culmination of activity within this triumvirate of spheres being the development of students who are not only academically well rounded, but students who can view themselves as world citizens who value participation in, not just consumption of our community-immediate and otherwise.

Sounds serious? We have our share of giggles believe me;). Development of this committee is a labor of love and we hope those of you who choose to get involved, or are just stopping by for a visit emerge if not with warm fuzzies than at least with a smile.Within these pages you will find information on everything from how to get involved with volunteering events to where the most interesting parties and cultural events are happening.
