Welcome to the Communication page of GSlounge.com! Your communication representatives are Evan Madeo, VP Communication, and Katherine Edwards, Communications Delegate-at-Large. Our mission is to facilitate communication between students, council, executive board, alumn and administrators of the School of General Studies and to the wider Columbia, New York, United States and international community.

  • Contact GS President Brody Berg (bcb2115@columbia.edu, (646) 573-3735) for any general questions or comments about the School of General Studies, to request an item to be placed on the GSSC meeting agenda, or to discuss issues to be brought up with school administrators.
  • Contact VP Policy Michael Rain (mr2593@columbia.edu) for any questions or comments about the GSSC constitution, resolutions for voting, or any pressing issues concerning the GS student experience.
  • Contact VP Student Life Alex Katz (ajk2153@columbia.edu) for any ideas or questions regarding current or upcoming social events for GS and Columbia.
  • Contact VP Finance Elie Colley (eac2148@columbia.edu) for any questions or concerns about GSSC budget and spending and to request GSSC funding or support.

Tuesday, December 2:

For the last meeting of the semester, each committee of GSSC reported their individual progess and accomplishments. Highlights include:

  • Housing Walkthroughs
  • Latin Diploma Petition
  • Sucessful social events (GS brunches, Halloween Party, Couples and Cupcakes, Thanksgiving volunteering and dinner)
  • New GSSC logo
  • GSSC Lerner Flatscreen
  • Improved relationship between GSSC and GS administration

Tuesday, November 25:

  •  Brody Berg and Michael Rain presented the Latin Diploma Petition to Dean Awn on Friday.

  •  GSSC approved the Glass House Rocks budget at $1800.

Tuesday, November 18:

  • The Policy committee is collecting signatures for the GS Latin Diploma Petition. The final results will be turned in to the administration on Friday.
  • The Dean's Office gave GSSC more complete information on where exactly GS students are living in University Housing. Results show GS students live spread out over 82 buildings with only a few GS students per building.
  • After viewing GS University Housing during the Housing Walkthrough last weekend, President Brody Berg is working on also viewing CC Housing to compare the two.
  • Lisa Fishenfeld resigned as VP Student Life.
  • Alex Katz was voted into office as VP Student Life and Joey Spitz was voted into office of Sophomore Class President.

Remember GSSC meetings are held every Tuesday at 7:30 pm in the Satow Conference Room, 5th floor Lerner Hall. Meetings are open and all students are welcome to attend.
